Bewitching Beauty with Botox

You’ve got charm, class, and a great—well, you know. But maybe you’ve got a few lines that have started sneaking up on you. Or maybe more than a few. Lucky for you, there’s a popular way to fix that: neurotoxins! We know what you’re thinking, sounds scary, right? Good news—it’s totally safe when injected by a trained medical professional.

Botulinum toxin type A, the active ingredient in Botox, has been used since the 70s. It’s a popular treatment for frown lines, wrinkles, and even migraines. There are a few different brands available, and each one has its strong suits. At Shot Bar (Chicago’s hottest med spa), we offer Xeomin, Dysport, and Botox in Lincoln Park.

Why We Love Them

Reduces Signs of Aging

The most popular use of wrinkle relaxing injections is for treating fine lines and wrinkles. At Shot Bar, we frequently use them for forehead lines, crow’s feet, and as an alternative to lip fillers (lip flip).

Symptom Relief

Wrinkle injections can relieve symptoms caused by tight or overactive muscles. These symptoms can include muscle spasms, TMJ, and tension headaches.

No Downtime

Wrinkle relaxers don’t require any social downtime or recovery time, though it can take up to two weeks for the effects to become fully noticeable.

For the Science Babes

Botulinum toxin type A is used in cosmetic injectables for relaxing wrinkles. Shot Bar offers three brand names: Xeomin, Dysport, and Botox in Lincoln Park, each with their unique formulation.

The botulinum toxin binds to the surface of neurons, blocking signals to nerves that cause muscles to contract. This temporarily reduces movement and relaxes muscles. We inject it into areas of concern in small doses to prevent the contracting of muscles and give you a youthful look. The FDA has approved the use of Botox for cosmetic purposes as well as for the treatment of headaches.

The Play-by-Play

The Neurotoxin Injection Process

Step 1

Consultation

During your consultation, inform your provider about all medications, supplements, and topical treatments you are using. We’ll talk about any and all concerns you have and make a plan for which areas to treat. Creating your patient history helps us determine whether you should get Dysport, Xeomin, or Botox.

Step 2

Treatment

Wrinkle-relaxing injections are easily tolerated by most patients. We will give you the option of getting a topical anesthetic before treatment. The provider will mark the areas on your face that you and your provider have agreed upon. Then they’ll use a very thin needle to inject the neurotoxin in small doses into the spots marked.

Step 3

Aftercare

There isn’t any downtime or recovery with wrinkle relaxers. You may notice results within a few days, but it can take up to two weeks to see the full effect. We may ask you to follow a few aftercare steps, including: Don’t lie down for four hours after getting your injections. Avoid touching the injection site for 24 hours after your treatment to avoid spreading the neurotoxin to other areas of the face.
