FAQ
Why use injectables for weight loss?
Excess weight is largely a result of eating habits, but with busy lifestyles, everyday stress, what we eat, our hormones, and our genetics, we are up against so much! Weight loss shouldn’t have to be so hard. You've heard the names Wegovy, Rybelsus, Ozempic and Mounjaro. They are the brand names for Semaglutide and Tirzepatide injections and we'll help you decide which one is right for you. Tirzepatide and Semaglutide help control cravings, setting you up for success. You don't have to live in Chicago. If you live in the state of Illinois, Shot Bar can provide your weight loss medication online or in person!
Why does having a lower blood sugar help in weight loss?
We will go over how certain foods store fat and why insulin spikes can cause weight gain throughout the program. In short, insulin is a key hormone involved in storing fats and weight gain. When insulin levels are high, it impairs the body’s ability to burn fat for energy.
Can I take GIP and/or GLP-1s if I am a Type One Diabetic or develop Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)?
The medication is not insulin and should not be used if you have Type One Diabetes or have DKA.
What are the potential side effects of the medication?
The most commonly reported side effects were mild to moderate nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and heartburn. Most side effects subside after a few days. There are some reports that side effects are less prevalent in Tirzepatide.
Will labs be required?
Labs will most likely be required. Lindsey has been working with local lab organizations who may be able come to your home or meet you at Shot Bar for a small fee. These options will be discussed during your consultation and we will also see if insurance can cover your lab work fee. If you have had some of the required lab work within the last year, that may also be acceptable.
SEMAGLUTIDE
Semaglutide is a glucagon like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analog. GLP-1 is a hormone naturally produced in the small intestine that stimulates insulin secretion and inhibits glucagon secretion, thereby lowering blood sugar. Studies show that Semaglutide is safe while it reduces appetite, improves control of eating, and reduces food cravings in addition to improving glycemic control. GLP-1s are incretin hormones, which means after a meal they help the pancreas to release insulin to control blood sugar levels. They also help reset and kickstart your metabolism.
GLP-1s and GIPs: Fight the Weight with Evidence Based Science
These peptides work on your body’s metabolic pathways to support sustained weight loss. People do lose weight quickly on these injectable medications, but please don’t just think of this as a quick fix! Yes, results can be achieved fast, but Shot Bar wants to help you keep them for the long term! Lindsey prescribes both Tirzepatide Plus and Semiglutide and will help you select which one is best for you.
GLP-1s Reduce Inflammation
GLP-1s are clinically proven to reduce inflammatory markers in your blood. This means that our bodies calm down so there is a decreased inflammatory response and oxidative stress. Lindsey may want to check bloodwork during your journey together. Labs are suggested and for some, for others, may be required.
What can I expect from Semaglutide therapy?
This peptide has been described to be twice as effective as any prescriptive weight loss products on the market today (prior to Tirzepatide). It has even been likened to being the equivalent of having gastric bypass surgery!
Recent Semaglutide trial results showed overweight or obese adults receiving Semaglutide had a mean loss of 14.9% at 68 weeks. In this same study, nearly 70% of participants were able to achieve a 10% weight loss threshold by taking Semaglutide and 32% of participants lost at least 20% of their initial weight.

What are the other benefits of GLP-1s?
GLP-1s shift set point! Set point is the weight your body fights to maintain. They work by shifting areas in the brain to help curb cravings, make you feel full faster, and increase your energy expenditure. The longer you maintain a certain weight, hopefully your goal weight, your shift point can reset. Ask Lindsey all about this!
GLP-1s also regulate digestion! They slow how quickly food moves from the stomach to the intestines. This helps you feel fuller for longer by regulating sugar absorption in the intestines.
GLP-1s improve metabolic function! GLP-1s regulate blood sugar by increasing insulin and decreasing glucagon only when blood sugar levels are high. GLP-1s also improve whole body energy metabolism by increasing insulin sensitivity of muscle cells and regulating fat development.

TIRZEPATIDE
Tirzepatide for weight loss. Did we just find the even more magic than Semaglutide?!
So, what is it?
Tirzepatide*** is marketed under the brand name Mounjaro. This peptide is an FDA approved once weekly injectable medication that treats Type 2 Diabetes and promotes weight loss. When used with healthy lifestyle habits and modifications, this medication can lower blood sugar levels and lead to significant weight loss in people with or without diabetes. After showing promising results in clinical trials, with nearly two thirds of participants reducing their body fat by at least 20%, the FDA fast tracked the drug for treatment of obesity (Source: "Lilly receives U.S. FDA Fast Track designation for tirzepatide for the treatment of adults with obesity, or overweight with weight related comorbidities")
How does Tirzepatide work?
At Shot Bar, we offer Tirzepatide Plus, a once weekly GIP (glucose dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptor and GLP-1 (glucagon like peptide-1, or Semaglutide) receptor agonist. This medication represents a new class of medicines studied for the treatment of obesity. Both medications are compounded with vitamin B12 for extra fat burning and energy.
Tirzepatide is single peptide that triggers the body’s receptors for GIP and GLP-1, two natural incretin hormones. Incretin hormones are released after eating that regulates the amount of insulin your pancreas secretes and lowers the amount of glucose your liver makes. In short, this helps you feel fuller longer, slowing down digestion, and lowering blood sugar.

What are the benefits of Semaglutide and Tirzepatide?
***Tirzepatide does interact with oral contraceptives, so patients will need a barrier method for four weeks after starting injections and four weeks after every dose escalation.
What is the difference between Tirzepatide and Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is another highly effective injectable weight loss medication we offer at Shot Bar. Semaglutide is a potent, long acting GLP-1 analogue whereas Tirzepatide, as we mentioned, combines two classes of medications. GLP-1 and GIP (Tirzepatide). Semaglutide is just the GLP-1. Research is showing that Tirzepatide superior to Semaglutide (Source: "Tirzepatide versus Semaglutide Once Weekly in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes"), which is already magical on its own!

How will I choose between Semaglutide and Tirzepatide?
During your consultation with Lindsey, you will work together to make a personalized weight loss plan and choose the medication that is right for you. Customization is key! You may also have a personal preference or budget you are working within. Regardless, we will customize an effective weight loss solution for you.
How are Semaglutide and Tirzepatide injected?
Both are subcutaneous injections, meaning they are placed by needle in the fatty tissue of the abdomen or thigh. Dosing is generally once a week and if needed, the strength of doses may be increased after four weeks.
Added B12+ MIC
An exceptional add on, or for anyone interested in just a good fat burning boost, Shot Bar is offering FDA approved B12+ MIC. It can work with Semaglutide or Tirzepatide or as a standalone. These peptides work with your own biology to control high blood sugar, reduce appetite & cravings, and set your metabolism on fire.
The added B12+MIC injection aids your body in the breakdown of fat and the use of food for energy. The unique combination of these therapies helps your liver become highly efficient at processing fat, making weight loss easier than ever. Yes. Really.
Let’s not just achieve your best body, let’s keep it for the long term.
Obesity and Illness
According to the CDC, 41% of Americans (Source: CDC "Adult Obesity Facts") are considered obese. We have all been taught on repeat how obesity is an epidemic. We know how it increases serious health risks such as heart disease, stroke, and cancer. What we don’t talk a lot about is the mental health issues that come along with being obese. The prevalence of depression and obesity is twice as high as in people of healthy weight (Source: "The Vicious Cycle of Depression and Obesity"). This is why personalization is important. If mental health is something you are concerned with, Lindsey is prepared to help shift your mindset. Just like she did with herself!
